The Stewardship Board holds occasional pop-up programs, like the Rooted in Place native garden tour of our neighbors’ properties, and Yoga on the Green with Heidi Kvasnak and Rowan Beck.
In addition, residents may lease a space in the South Village Community Garden each year. Garden plot signup happens in late winter. For more information on the community garden program, contact Paula Caron.
South Village Community Garden

Have you seen our community garden plots behind the farmstand? In recent years the Stewardship Board has enhanced the garden area with more plots, new forms, a “critter fence,” underground irrigation with hose stations, upgraded tools and gardening equipment, a pick-your-own community rhubarb patch, chairs for relaxing, free seeds, and more.
Each year gardeners enjoy the camaraderie among our garden bed community. Experienced gardeners help with pest problems, disease and planting suggestions. All gardeners commit to staying ahead of weeds so they don’t spread to other beds. A resident, and Master Gardener, provides us with direct access to the University of Vermont Extension Service for education and problem solving.
Interested in a plot in our community garden? Sign up begins in March of each year, and plots are awarded on a first-come, first-served, basis. Look for the online registration form via the South Village Stewardship Board enews. For more information, contact Garden Bed Coordinator Paula Caron.
An integral part of the South Village Community Stewardship Fund mission is fulfilled by community programs offerings. Currently this includes the community garden program. In the past it has included the chicken coop program. Also there are coordinated community events such as the annual “Restore & Explore” trail maintenance day in the Preserve.
Community involvement is at the essence of a vibrant community. As such, we share with you community stories such as “Going Native to Bring in the Pollinators and Birds” for your education and information. Thanks so much to Lucie Lehmann for sharing her knowledge and ideas with us.

The South Village Stewardship Board hosted its inaugural Garden Tour—a special opportunity to explore the natural beauty and creativity thriving in the neighborhood.
South Village is a unique Agrihood—a community designed around a working organic farm and farmstand. The 2025 tour featured eight home gardens, the community garden farm beds located behind the farmstand, and the Common Roots Farm and farmstand.
On the day of the tour, all participating locations were marked with Garden Tour signs, and guests were welcome to begin at any site. Maps and garden descriptions were available at each stop, allowing for a self-guided experience tailored to one’s own pace and interests.
Whether you’re a passionate gardener, curious neighbor, or someone looking for inspiration, the South Village Garden Tour offers a perfect summer afternoon of connection, learning, and native beauty. We look forward to welcoming you next year!
South Village is located off Spear Street in South Burlington, at the top of Allen Road. For more information about the South Village garden tour, contact Paula Caron at nikolla1954@gmail.com.
